Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal

On a cold, winter morning, there's nothing that's much better than a warm bowl of oatmeal. But those prepackaged packs of flavored oatmeal are full of sugar. You're much better off starting with whole grain, rolled oats and adding fresh fruit to it so that you can control the amount of sugar. It doesn't have to take long either. Here's our simple recipe for Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal.

1/2 cup rolled oats

1 cup water

1/4 teaspoon cinnamon

1 tsp. honey

1/4 cup natural applesauce

1/2 cup apple, diced

1 Tbsp. chopped walnuts (optional)

Combine all ingredients, except for the diced apples in a medium-sized microwavable bowl or in a small saucepan. Stir well. Heat in microwave on high for 2 to 3 minutes or simmer over medium high heat until water is absorbed. Add diced apples and a sprinkle of cinnamon to the top. If you prefer it to be sweeter, add a drizzle of extra honey one top. Makes one serving.
